Canadian Version Of Jersey Shore A Tragic Reality (EDIT: Sort Of)

UPDATE: Further research has indicated that I have made a critical error. CTV is not directly involved with Lake Shore, they were merely involved with interviewing the producers. A broadcaster has yet to step forward and provide full funding for the series, and as such the following rant is based largely around a hypothetical bogeyman.

Here is a wake-up call for those short-sighted enough to think that Sun TV News symbolized the modern devastation of Canadian television. A recently released “sizzle reel” has revealed that CTV’s long-rumoured knock-off of MTV’s obscenely over-exposed reality series, Jersey Shore, is not a joke.

Net Neutrality in Canada May Still Require Some Work

With Internet providers recently being given the regulatory go-ahead to charge customers based on how much bandwidth they use, things are beginning to look slightly grimmer for net neutrality being properly implemented in Canada. However, a glimmer of hope still exists in the form of Industry Minister Tony Clement, who may soon have the power to undo this damage. As always, your simple and non-intensive participation is vital.

Avengers Cartoon Denies Existence Of Nazis

Anticipation for Young Justice, the latest DC Comics action cartoon being helmed by television writer Greg Weisman (best known as the head writer of Gargoyles and The Spectacular Spider-Man), has reached new heights after a preview was screened at this year’s New York Comic Con. Meanwhile, Marvel Animation (best known for ruthlessly killing The Spectacular Spider-Man) has begun dabbling in historical revision in their latest television production.

Tommy Wiseau Inspires New Nightmares In “The House That Drips Blood On Alex”

Ghoulish film visionary Tommy Wiseau has once again found himself on the public radar with his performance in the recently released short film, The House That Drips Blood On Alex. It can be watched in its entirety here. This, along with some surprising announcements in an interview conducted by Little White Lies, shows that Wiseau is far from a cinematic has-been despite a considerable length of inactivity.

Sun TV News: “We Won’t Be Hypocrites”

Quebecor has officially withdrawn their request for cable and satellite services to be required to offer their highly publicized proposed service, Sun TV News. It seems likely that the company has finally realized the irony behind a right-wing news network seeking regulatory intervention to ensure its success.

Fullmetal Alchemist Day Not Enough to Warm Hearts of Canadian Networks

One hundred years ago today, Edward and Alphonse Elric made their shocking departure from Resembool, burning their childhood home to ashes behind them. Sadly, it appears that Canadian television networks were uninterested in observing the event, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood remains absent from airwaves despite the success of the previous series.

Teletoon Retro Oblivious To The Flintstones’ 50th Anniversary

Betty Rubble30 September 2010 marked the 50th anniversary of the landmark prime time animated series, The Flintstones. In spite of this event, Digital Forum posters have been horrified to discover that Teletoon Retro went through with their normal schedule, unaware of the important event. The fact that no marathons or special events were planned brings some question to just how many people are actually running the station.

CBSC: Superjail! Maybe, Probably Should Have Been Rated 18+

The WardenLast year, G4TechTV Canada made the delightful inclusion of Adult Swim’s hypnotically violent series, Superjail!, to their line-up. Despite the fact that the series may very well be the most excessively violent animated program to ever run on North American commercial television, G4 mistakenly ran the entire series with a “PG” rating.

Just for kicks, blogger doconnor decided to submit a complaint to the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council using their online form. Last month he showed us the results.

Interview with ReBoot Co-creator Gavin Blair

Being the first ever computer animated television series, ReBoot is often reflected upon for its technical influence on modern television animation. Given how outrageously generic CGI methods have made modern cartoons, this is a somewhat flawed way of looking at things. Instead, ReBoot can still be marvelled at for its sophisticated writing, which has rarely been matched to this day.

Back at Anime Evolution 2009, I was fortunate enough to grab an interview with the co-creator of ReBoot and one of the masterminds behind what we once knew as Mainframe Entertainment: Gavin Blair. For those who missed it on the old site, here it is again.
